Art Out Loud is a summer concert at the UICA featuring Mid-Life Crisis and Domestic Problems. Local artists will create paintings live in response to the music (to be raffled later that evening); other artists include glass blowers, a henna artist, a caricature artist, and prayer flag making.
Art Out Loud takes place on August 22nd fro 6-10pm and will be raising funds for UICA's Artworks program that offers opportunities to youth.

The West Michigan Blues Society and Billyâs Lounge announce the appearance of French blues vocalist Nina Van Horn, who will appear on stage at Billyâs Lounge on Saturday August 18th at 9:30 PM, in her Mid-West concert debut. On Wednesday, August 15th, the Community Media Center is pulling back the curtain to give our members a behind-the-scenes look at how your media center works for you and the rest of our community.
"CMC All-Access" will include live radio and TV broadcasts, giving CMC members a chance to share how they have learned and grown through our technology and education programs. The event will also represent a final push in CMC's $2.4 million capital campaign, which wraps up in September. To cap off the event, CMC will hold its annual membership meeting, where newly elected board members will be announced.

Compact fluorescent light bulbs use two-thirds less energy than standard light bulbs and last a lot longer, but when your compact fluorescent bulbs finally do burn out, they should not be tossed in the trash because they contain mercury. The Kent County Department of Public Works offers a disposal service for these bulbs and other environmentally hazardous materials.

Throughout the month of August WYCE presents the Tuesday Evening Music Club, a showcase of local talent at the Frederik Meijer Gardens & Sculpture Park amphitheatre.
On Tuesday, August 14th at 7:00PM the Club hosts Claire Fisher, Nobody's Darlin' and Greensky Bluegrass Band.
The Tuesday Evening Music Club performances are free to Meijer Gardens members, and open to the general public with the purchase of a day pass to the Gardens. More information is available at wyce.org and at meijergardens.org.

On Thursday August 16, local musician and songwriter Karisa Wilson will release her debut album "Little Girl" with a release party at Wealthy Theater.
Karisa has performed with many local groups over the years, but will present this solo project with full backing band in a very special night of music, with opening performance by Lux Land.
The concert starts at 7:30pm. Tickets are available at Schuler Books stores, Beat Goes On, and Fresh, a new music shop on Wealthy Street in Eastown.
