The Literacy Center of West Michigan (click for more info)As many as 1 in 8 adults in west Michigan cannot read or write above a ninth grade level. Low literacy often prevents these individuals from accessing the rich social and economic resources in our community.
You can make a difference by becoming a tutor. No special skills are needed - just an ability to read and write in English and a passion to help someone else do the same.

Transmitter site clean-up (click for more info)WYCE needs your help with volunteer community service project.
On Saturday, June 14th, we'll be gathering a team of volunteers to clean up litter at our transmitter site. The more volunteers we get, the quicker the work will go. Please bring gloves and trash bags. The clean-up shouldn't take more than an hour or so -- then you can head down to the Local First Street Party for some free food and music!
To sign up, please visit grcmc.org/volunteer, or simply show up at 1:00 on Saturday afternoon. The transmitter site is located at 2843 Woodward Avenue, behind the Goodwill store on 28th Street, just west of US-131.

first Hand Aid (click for more info)First Hand Aid presents "Havana Nights" on Friday, June 13th. Havana Nights is a fundraiser that will feature Cuban cuisine, mojitos and a silent auction -- as well as live music from the 11-piece Orquesta Ritmo, Michigan's Premier Salsa Orchestra.
All proceeds will benefit First-Hand Aid's humanitarian efforts to supply medical basics to Cuban children with cancer. Tickets and information is available at firsthandaid.org or you can purchase tickets at all Schuler Books.

The Local First Street Party takes place Saturday, June 14th, from 4:00 p.m. to midnight. The party happens outside of Bistro Bella Vita at 44 Grandville SW -- just around the corner from Van Andel Arena. As always, the Street Party is free!

W@W Stacey Earle & Mark Stuart (click for more info)"Wednesdays At Wealthy" is a weekly event at Wealthy Theatre. Every second Wednesday of the month WYCE rocks out with a musical event. In June, we welcome Stacey Earle and Mark Stuart, presented by Hopcat.
There is an innocent quality to Stacey Earle's voice, it seems honest and clear. Her husband and musical counterpart Mark Stuart adds his warmth to their union. Together, they share the lead, the writing and the road.

Fundraiser for Utah Phillips (click for more info)Local musicians along with the Grand Rapids Folk Arts Society are joining together to raise funds in the memory of legendary folk musician Utah Phillips, who recently passed. Steppinâ In It, Rachael Davis, Mick Lane, Seth Bernard & Daisy May Erlewine are among the musicians influenced by Utah Phillips playing at this memorial concert.
The fundraiser for Utah Phillips will be held on June 18th at Wealthy Theatre at 8:00 pm. Proceeds will be donated to Hospitality House, the homeless shelter Utah Phillips founded in 2005.
