True North Film Festival (click for more info)The True North Film Festival will be held on September 14th at Wealthy Theatre starting at 7:30PM. This festival was created to inspire and foster the burgeoning Michigan filmmaking community. Short films from the competition will be played-but of the top ten films featured, a winner will be selected through audience participation and a panel of independent judges. That filmmaker will win the sum total of all the entry fees of the competition.

The Kent County Department of Public Works offers a disposal service for these bulbs and other environmentally hazardous materials.

âGrand Rapidsâ ownâ Mustard Plug have been playing ska throughout North America, Europe, Brazil and Japan for the last 16 years. The band is proud to release its latest record, "In Black and White" with this record release show in their home town. Other bands that will be playing are MU330, Whole Wheat Bread, West Bound Train and The Flaming Tsunamis.

Schuler's anniversary deal (click for more info)Schuler Books & Music is helping the Community Media Center cap off its fundraising campaign in September.
On September 15th Schuler's will celebrate its 25th anniversary as an independent, local seller of books and music. The anniversary celebration will include live music from local artists, as well as a book-signing event with National Book Award winner Jonathan Franzen, author of the New York Times' bestseller "The Corrections."
Schuler will donate 20% of the proceeds from the sale of Franzen's books to the Community Media Center -- as well as a percentage of sales of music by Harry Lucas & The Lowdown -- one of the night's performers.
