In the time since 2015, indie rock group flipturn has mushroomed to reaches far beyond the walls of the Fernandina Beach garage they first practiced in. The band is walking proof that the DIY approach is still alive and well in the modern music world. Join WYCE as we present "Summer of Soul" at the Wealthy Theatre on Tuesday, February 7th.
During the turbulent summer of 1969, just one hundred miles south of Woodstock, The Harlem Cultural Festival was filmed in Mount Morris Park. The footage was largely forgotten-until now. In his acclaimed debut as a filmmaker, Ahmir "Questlove" Thompson presents a powerful and transporting documentary - part electrifying music film, part historical record - created around an epic event that celebrated Black history, culture and fashion.
Join us as we celebrate this award-winning film "Summer of Soul" on the big screen at Wealthy Theatre on Tuesday, February 7th at 8:00. Arrive early for a special pre-show live set from DJ Dante Cope to kick off the evening at 6:30pm. Representatives from GRMIFI & Grand Stand Pictures will also be present.
