Local bands performing this year include Craic Wisely, Fled Five, Common Shiner, Creolization, and Los Cobras. All proceeds will support the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation. Camp Blodgett presents Sons of Beaches on Tuesday, August 21, the last show of their Acoustic Sunset Series. The SOB's perform original music and cover some Jimmy Buffett, the Eagles and Alan Jackson. Gates open at 6:00pm, music starts at 7:30. Grand Valley State Universities' Global Citizenship course invites WYCE listeners to "Memory, Truth and Justice: A Benefit for Guatemala." It will be held on Wednesday, August 8th from 6-9pm at Wealthy Theatre. There will be live music, food, information on Guatemalan non-profit organizations, student photography and art exhibits. Art Out Loud is a summer concert at the UICA featuring Mid-Life Crisis and Domestic Problems. Local artists will create paintings live in response to the music (to be raffled later that evening); other artists include glass blowers, a henna artist, a caricature artist, and prayer flag making. Art Out Loud takes place on August 22nd fro 6-10pm and will be raising funds for UICA's Artworks program that offers opportunities to youth. On Thursday August 16, local musician and songwriter Karisa Wilson will release her debut album "Little Girl" with a release party at Wealthy Theater. Karisa has performed with many local groups over the years, but will present this solo project with full backing band in a very special night of music, with opening performance by Lux Land. The concert starts at 7:30pm. Tickets are available at Schuler Books stores, Fresh in Eastown and Beat Goes On.

WYCE Fall Classic (click for more info)
After a rained-out event in 2006, WYCE's annual golf scramble makes its triumphant return in September. The "WYCE Fall Classic" will be held at Alpine Golf Club in Alpine Township. We have reserved space for 18 foursomes in this fundraiser event, so space is limited. Individual registration is $50; teams of four are $150. Entry fees include 18 holes of golf with cart, a BBQ lunch, and two drink tickets. As always, golf skills are recommended, but not necessary to have a good time! The WYCE Fall Classic will take place at noon on Saturday, September 15th. Registration and payment must be made to WYCE by the end of business on Friday, September 7th.
