The Inner City Christian Federation will sponsor Wynton Marsalis in concert on June 21st at 7:30pm at Devos Performance Hall. Marsalis will be joined by the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra and the Yakub Addy Odadas Drum Ensenble performing Congo Square, a composition that Marsalis and Odadas wrote for New Orleans. The 2nd Annual Water Festival will be held in Riverside Park on June 16. The event begins at 11am and goes until 10pm. Music will be performed throughout the day with brief talks in between sets. Performances from many local musicians Stepping In It, Rachel Davis, Breathe Owl Breathe, Seth Bernard and Daisy May, Hawks and Owls String Band, Ralston, Drew Nelson, Jen Sygit and Peter Madcat Ruth just to name a few. As many as 1 in 8 adults in west Michigan cannot read or write above a ninth grade level.  Low literacy often prevents these individuals from accessing the rich social and economic resources in our community.  


You can make a difference by becoming a tutor.  No special skills are needed - just an ability to read and write in English and a passion to help someone else do the same.

The Westside Farmers' Market and the Southeast Area Farmers Market are open for the season. The Westside market is held on Thursdays from noon until 6:00pm and Saturdays from 8:00am until noon in the rear parking lot of St. James Catholic Church located at 733 Bridge St. NW. The Southeast Area market takes place on Thursdays from noon until 6:00 p.m. in the parking lot adjacent to Martin Luther King Jr. park, at Franklin St. and Fuller Avenue SE. Both markets feature regional produce, baked goods and other locally made items.
