WYCE presents Chicago jam band Umphrey's McGee with special guest Adrian Belew, Thursday, March 15th at The Orbit Room. Over the past several years, Umphrey's McGee has turned a loyal college following into a growing national reputation. Coming off of recent collaborations with Taj Majal and Los Lobos, Umphrey's McGee is now teaming up with legendary guitarist Adrian Belew for just four performances--one of them in Grand Rapids. Belew's resume includes guitar work for David Bowie, Frank Zappa, King Crimson and The Talking Heads. Tickets for the March 15th performance are on sale now at The Orbit Room, Ticketmaster locations or online at www.umphreys.com. Starting March 19th, WYCE will celebrate local music with a series of 12 free concerts -- every night from March 19th to 29th. As part of our "Live & Local" 2007 Spring fund drive, we're rewarding our listener-sponsors with two weeks of free shows. The next GRCC Diversity Lecture Series Speaker is Paula Crisostomo presenting "The Struggle for Equity in Education: A Defining Moment in Chicano History" on March 14th from 7 to 9pm in the ATC Banquet Room on the GRCC campus. Crisostomo led 20,000 Chicano students from five East LA high schools in the first major protest against racism ever undertaken by Mexican Americans.
