Name of PSA: Wealthy Theatre Notes: (none) Copy: "How to Eat the Winter" is an informational session on local food sources, beginning at 7:00pm on January 31 at Wealthy Theatre The evening will open with a short film followed by a presentation by Tom Cary of the Greater Grand Rapids Food Systems Council and Chris Bedford of the Sweetwater Local Foods Market. They will discuss the increasing options in our area for purchasing locally grown products from local farmers in the winter. They'll also offer a quick education in what exactly winter crops and foods are. The event will also include the unveiling of the West Michigan Coop, a new online farmers market, and the chance to meet and talk with local farmers who will be selling products in the lobby.

As many as 1 in 8 adults in west Michigan cannot read or write above a ninth grade level.  Low literacy often prevents these individuals from accessing the rich social and economic resources in our community.  

You can make a difference by becoming a tutor.  No special skills are needed - just an ability to read and write in English and a passion to help someone else do the same.

WMCAT (pronounced WIMM-cat) exposes troubled youth to technology and encourages them to pursue technology careers. Local video producers have organized something called Dick vs Jen. It is your chance to submit a 30- or 60-second video about either Dick DeVos or Jennifer Granholm. This is meant to be fun and non-partisan, so the organizers are looking for satire in particular. All the submissions will be screened at the Wealthy Theater on Sept. 21 and the audience will pick the winner. First prize is $500. The Grand Rapids Institute for Information Democracy is offering a production session on Thursday August 24th from 5-9pm at CMC Wealthy located at 1110 Wealthy St. Submission information is available at 459-4788 Ext. 122.

Name of PSA: Hispanic Center award Notes: (none) Copy:WYCE is excited to announce that Oscar Zuniga has won the first Annual Hispanic Center award for arts and culture for his show, "El Mundo Musical". Since WYCE first went on the air in the late eighties Oscar has been providing his blend of Tejano music every morning six days a week. In fact, Oscar was the first person to actually use the WYCE transmitter. El Mundo Musical can be heard every morning Monday-Friday 5:30-7:00am and on Sundays, 6:00-8:00am.
