Today's WYCE day sponsor is the Grand Rapids Women's Chorus, premiering a commissioned memorial work for chorus, piano and cello by Philadelphia composer Andrea Clearfield at their concert this coming Saturday night.
Dr. Clearfield is an award-winning American composer praised by the New York Times for her "lively, rhythmically vital writing." She will be attending the concert at 8:00 this Saturday at the East Grand Rapids Performing Arts Center. Tickets and more information at G-R-W-C-DOT-ORG.
Support for WYCE comes from the Grand Rapids Ballet, presenting a 21st century version of "A Midsummer Night's Dream".
Unlike Shakespeare's original play, this adaptation sees the fairies as the real protagonists, rather than the mortals - with the tangled, teasing, confrontational relationship of the fairy king and queen, Oberon and Titania at its center.
The Grand Rapids Ballet's "A Midsummer Night's Dream" May 9th through the 11th & May 16th through the 18th at the Peter Martin Wege Theatre. Tickets are available at the Ballet Box Office or through Ticketmaster. More information at GRBallet.com

Local pianist Phil Pletcher and the chorus's own talented percussionists will join the chorus for songs of peace, justice, mourning, romance - and some just for fun, like "Happy Together" - that old 60's song by the Turtles.
