Beltline Bar Food Drive (click for more info)

Support for WYCE comes from The Beltline Bar, helping West Michigan food pantries in the month of May with the first annual Beltline Bar Food Drive.

The goal of the drive is to collect 10,000 donations of nonperishable food items, such as dried fruits, canned goods, dry goods, juice boxes and jarred goods, like peanut butter and pasta sauce. One hundred percent of the donations will go to local food pantries, serving people in need throughout West Michigan.

Donations can be dropped off anytime in May at The Beltline Bar, at the corner of Division and 28th Street. More details at FACEBOOK-DOT-COM-SLASH-BELTLINE-BAR.

GR Ballet - Midsummer (click for more info)

Today's WYCE Business Day Sponsor is the Grand Rapids Ballet, presenting "A Midsummer Night's Dream" May 9th through the 11th & May 16th through the 18th at the Peter Martin Wege Theatre.

Choreographer Olivier Wevers creates a 21st century version of "A Midsummer Night's Dream" told through the eyes of a young Nick Bottom. Unlike Shakespeare's play, Wevers sees the fairies as the real protagonists, rather than the mortals. The tangled, teasing, confrontational relationship of the fairy king and queen, Oberon and Titania, expresses real love's complexity-- not the superficial love of the mortal couples who chase each other about the stage, falling in and out of love at the drop of some magical nectar.

Tickets are available at the Ballet Box Office or through Ticketmaster. More information at GRBallet.com

The Joe Cuba Sextet

Do You Feel It?
Bustin' Out 1972 via Vampi Soul
a note about this track

Cuba's longtime vocalist Jimmy Sabater talks about growing up in el barrio, with all its pleasures (Spanish food shout-outs!) and challenges (poverty and racial tension). It's a love letter to East Harlem, stark in its honesty but heartfelt in its sentiment.
