Excessive Force Racing will be hosting the second annual Loghan’s Run for Loghan’s Heart Charity Foundation on Saturday, August 12, 2006. It will be a poker run cruise with five stops between Holland and Ionia, where participants will pick up cards to complete a hand of poker, following the rules for five card draw. The run starts at 11:30 a.m. at Kollen Park in Holland with the final stop in Ionia. At the end of the run, the participant with the best hand of five cards wins. All types of vehicles are welcome. Local video producers have organized something called Dick vs Jen. It is your chance to submit a 30- or 60-second video about either Dick DeVos or Jennifer Granholm. This is meant to be fun and non-partisan, so the organizers are looking for satire in particular. All the submissions will be screened at the Wealthy Theater on Sept. 21 and the audience will pick the winner. First prize is $500. The Grand Rapids Institute for Information Democracy is offering a production session on Thursday August 24th from 5-9pm at CMC Wealthy located at 1110 Wealthy St. Submission information is available at 459-4788 Ext. 122.

Name of PSA: Wealthy Theatre Notes: (none) Copy: "How to Eat Locally....in Michigan...in the Winter" is an informational session on local food sources, beginning at 7:00pm on January 31 at Wealthy Theatre The evening will open with a short film followed by a presentation by Tom Cary of the Greater Grand Rapids Food Systems Council and Chris Bedford of the Sweetwater Local Foods Market. They will discuss the increasing options in our area for purchasing locally grown products from local farmers in the winter. They'll also offer a quick education in what exactly winter crops and foods are. The event will also include the unveiling of the West Michigan Coop, a new online farmers market, and the chance to meet and talk with local farmers who will be selling products in the lobby.
