Good Intent
Vows 2012 via Warner Bros.
a note about this track

Kimbra's musical style harbours "smoky soul, flights of dazzling invention and intricate layers of deeply felt emotion". Comparisons have been drawn with Architecture in Helsinki, Amy Winehouse, Katy Perry, Meiko, and Björk. Her songs are heavily thematic and laced with "quirky" jazz chords. Kimbra's music pertains beyond the "four chord cliché but still maintains strong hooks and catchy melodies that are sometimes unpredictable but satisfying"

Craft Spells

The Fog Rose High
Idle Labor
a note about this track

Toward the end of 2009, in a bedroom in Stockton, CA, a 21-year-old Justin Vallesteros began layering simple synth and guitar lines to create the sound that would become Craft Spells. What began as an experiment soon became a vibrant world of elegant guitar chords laced over looped rhythms, heavenly synth melodies, and pulsating bass. When Vallesteros recorded his first track "Party Talk,” an outpouring of online enthusiasm led him to return to his native Seattle and flesh out a full band for the debut LP Idle Labor, released on Captured Tracks in Spring 2011. If you love Felt, The Smiths, Echo & The Bunnymen, and the beautiful monotone drone of Ian Curtis... Craft Spells might soon be your favorite nuevo-new romantics.

a note about this track

Nick Waterhouse has been called a young man who makes old music. The 25-year-old's R&B doesn't just sound classic; he actually records on vintage equipment. He released a single on vinyl last year which sold out instantly. He released his full-length on May 1st on Innovative Leisure. Waterhouse's live performance has won fans across the country, and is what convinced Innovative Leisure to sign him. Waterhouse is currently touring the country with a full band, playing what he calls "American music."

Hot Chip

Don't Deny Your Heart
In Our Heads 2012 via Domino
a note about this track

Due out 6/12/12 "Hot Chip is about unity: The word that stands out most on In Our Heads, the band's excellent fifth album, is "we." It pops up again and again, and underlines the single topic that most obsesses Hot Chip's songs — the need for human connection expressed through desire (almost always to dance) and the rush of freedom that comes with fulfilling that need." -NPR
