Kent County – Senior Neighbors, Inc., a Kent County non-profit agency serving the needs of older adults, invites all area seniors to join the Mexican Fiesta at our annual Senior Neighbors Picnic on Friday, August 10 at Grandville High School, 4700 Canal Ave. Be sure to use the southernmost Canal Street entrance. The festivities start at 10:00 AM and go to 2:00 PM. Dinner is at 12 noon and will consist of mild Mexican fare. There will be piñatas, Mexican hat dancing, Bingo and other surprises! All Kent County seniors 60 years old or older are welcome. Reservation deadline is July 27 at the latest. The number to call for reservations is 459-6019.

The WYCE Hat Trick Concert Series has been Extended with one more show with David Mead on Monday June 12th at 7:30pm at the One Trick Pony. Mead is touring in support of his recent release "Tangerine", where much of the material deals with married love.“When I got married," Mead says, "I sort of bought into this model that my parents laid out, assuming that some level of normalcy would accompany it. But it doesn’t. Life gets much weirder, actually.” A Hat will be passed for the benefit of the "Never Give Up" Scholarship Program for M.S. Thanks to Rainbow Music for providing audio assistance and Fountain Hill Bed and Breakfast for providing lodging. The Red Thread Project will feature 500 hats in the public performance scheduled for 7:00 pm on Friday, June 30 at Rosa Parks Circle in downtown Grand Rapids. The hats will be attached to a knitted red cord measuring over a half-mile long. Community members are invited to come wear a hat and participate in the performance, which celebrates community connections – both visible and invisible.
