Today we celebrate the swingin’ sounds of guitarist, vocalist, and celebrated Songbook interpreter John Pizzarelli.
The son of swing guitarist Bucky Pizzarelli, John made his 1983 recording debut at age 20 on a duo album with his father. In 1993, he notably earned a spot opening for Frank Sinatra and later performed at Sinatra’s 80th birthday celebration at Carnegie Hall. Pizzarelli made his Broadway debut in the 1997 production of “Dream”, a tribute to composer Bobby Mercer.
He’s heard weekly as co-host of the jazz standards radio program “Radio Deluxe”, along with wife and frequent musical collaborator Jessica Mulaskey.
His latest release is last year’s Sinatra and Jobim at 50, inspired by the landmark 1967 album that brought together American swing music and bossa nova.
John Pizzarelli performs tomorrow night in Bell’s Brewery Backroom in Kalamazoo.
