Grammy-winning singer, pianist, composer and Grand Rapids native John Proulx (‘Proo’) has just released the new album Say It.
John began his formal musical education on Suzuki violin at the age of 3, but switched to classical piano lessons. His late grandfather, Clyde Proulx, was a jazz guitarist who introduced him to the world of jazz. Hooked on the freedom of improvisation, John studied music at the Chicago School of Performing Art. In 2001, John moved to Los Angeles to further his musical pursuits, where he released three albums including a tribute to Chet Baker. Since then, he has appeared on Michael Feinstein’s radio show on NPR, “Song Travels” as well as on Marian McPartland’s radio show, “Piano Jazz”. John recently moved back to Grand Rapids to pursue a Master’s degree from Western Michigan University.
