This Friday, North Carolina’s outlaw country act Sarah Shook & The Disarmers release Years, the band’s second album on Bloodshot Records. The band formed in 2013 and released its first album, Sidelong, in 2015. Strong press and heavy touring led to the album’s re-release on Bloodshot last year.
With this early success, Shook applied her influence toward creating the Manifest Music Festival in Chapel Hill, North Carolina, which includes bands that have at least one woman member. She also earned the 2016 Indy Arts Award for her efforts with the Safe Space Initiative, an effort to get businesses to put up stickers that offered safe spaces for people needing it.
