Let's take a look back to 1998, when British band Gomez won The Mercury Prize for their debut album, Bring It On. Most of the members of the band grew up in the seaside town of Southport, England on the coast of the Irish Sea. They played their first gig together in 1996 and - with one gig under their belt - scored a record deal for a self-produced four-track demo. Gomez went into the studio for the Bring It On sessions with engineer Ken Nelson, who later went on to create with Coldplay and Badly Drawn Boy.
Following the Mercury Prize win, Gomez soldiered on with seven career albums, two EPs, and a live recording. The last studio album was 2011's Whatever's On Your Mind.
Founding members Ian Ball and Ben Ottewell have continued solo careers following the hiatus.
Bring it On 20th Anniversary Edition is available April 20th through the band's website. Gomez has reunited for a US tour and they have two dates in Chicago at The Vic Theatre June 15th and 16.
