This Saturday November 4th, WYCE presents A sold-out Evening with Regina Spektor at 20 Monroe Live!
Born in Moscow, Spektor grew up playing the piano and listening to her father's collection of bootleg tapes of American pop and rock music. When she was nine her family immigrated to the United States and moved to the Bronx. It was here where Spektor immersed herself in American music and honed her musical skills on the piano. Spektor studied the piano at the SUNY Purchase and following her graduation fell in with the New York Anti-Folk crowd. She then self-released her first two albums before making her major label debut with 2004's Soviet Kitsch
Major commercial success came with Spektor's fourth album Begin to Hope which was bolstered by the hit single "Fidelity” which hit number twenty on the singles charts. Her two follow up albums Far and What We Saw From the Cheap Seats were major successes, each hitting number three on the Billboard charts. Her world tour in support of Cheap Seats found Spektor performing a concert in Moscow. It was her first return to Russia since her family emigrated. Spektor has contributed music to a variety of shows and films including her Grammy nominated theme song "You've Got Time" for the hit Netflix series Orange is the New Black.
