Rostam Batmanglij, the Iranian-American songwriter, multi-instrumentalist and composer just released his debut solo album Half-Light last month. Born to Iranian immigrants, Rostam took to music at an early age. While studying music at Colombia University, Batmanglij became a founding member of Grammy-winning band Vampire Weekend.

In 2016, Rostam announced that he was leaving Vampire Weekend, though he specified that he would continue collaborating with Ezra Koenig and the band on future projects.  Alongside his work with Vampire Weekend, he used his production skills on work with a variety of rock and pop artists, producing songs for Carly Rae Jepsen, Frank Ocean, and HAIM. His stock rose yet again with his stellar collaboration with Walkmen lead singer Hamilton Leithauser on the album I Had a Dream That You Were Mine.

Rostam has also worked as a composer, he has done the music for the films Sound of My Voice and The East both directed by his brother Zal. In 2014 he contributed the music to the play This Is Our Youth by Kenneth Lonergan.  Rostam is coming to Grand Rapids for a performance at the Ladies Literary Club on February 9th.
