August saw the release of Reservoir, the debut album from Australian musician Gordi. Gordi is the stage name for Sophie Payten, a singer/songwriter based in Sydney. Payten grew up on a family farm in rural town called Canowindra, where she first began honing her songwriting skills as a teenager. She first gaining airplay on Triple J, a major Australian radio station. On the strength of a few singles, Gordi was signed to US label Jagjaguwar in late 2015. It was on this label that she released the Clever Disguise EP that same year.
Gordi went on tour as a supporting act for Of Monsters and Men, The Tallest Man on Earth, and Bon Iver. She even appeared on US television as a backup singer for Bon Iver when the band performed on The Tonight Show. Gordi recorded her debut album in Sydney, Reykjavik, Wisconsin, and New York City. Through this long process, she found time for international touring commitments as well as time to finish her degree in medicine. Gordi is currently touring the world in support of her album and will have just 5 dates in the States this year, one a performance in Columbus, Ohio on November 14th.
