Memphis… Yes I'm Ready is the latest album from legendary jazz singer Dee Dee Bridgewater, just released on September 16th.  Considered one of the greatest singers of her generation, Bridgewater has been sharing her voice with the world since the 1960s. Raised in Flint, Michigan, Bridgewater's singing career began when she was a teenager performing in clubs throughout Michigan. While she was in college at the University of Illinois she joined their jazz group. In 1969, the group was invited to perform in the Soviet Union. Her jazz career began in the early 1970s when she became the lead vocalist for the Thad Jones-Mel Lewis Jazz Orchestra. It was during this time that she performed with many jazz luminaries including Dizzy Gillespie and Max Roach. In 1975 Bridgewater was cast as Glinda the Good Witch in the original Broadway run of The Wiz, for which she won the Tony for best featured actress.

Bridgewater's work in musical theater began to overshadow her work in jazz. In 1984, she toured France with the musicalSophisticated Ladies. It was during this time that she fell in love with the country and in 1986 she moved to Paris. It was in Paris that Bridgewater returned to the world of jazz. She began recording albums and audiences slowly began to recognize her talent. In 1989 she received the first of nine Grammy nominations, winning three. Bridgewater is also the first American to be inducted into the Haut Conseil de la Francophonie. Memphis… I'm Ready is the eighteenth album she has recorded over her lengthy and varied career and she show no signs of stopping. She is currently touring the world.
