JD McPherson, whose throwback style of rock and roll has garnered him an enthusiastic following, is set to release the new album Undivided Heart and Soul on October 6th.  McPherson grew up in Oklahoma on a cattle ranch. In high school, McPherson played in a punk rock band, but as a young man, he also developed an interest in the old school sounds of 50's rock after being exposed to Buddy Holly. This marked a major shift in his musical interests, as he told NPR "I can't really be an English punk rocker in 1995 Buffalo Valley, Oklahoma, on a cattle ranch." Following his graduation from college, McPherson decided to focus on his music career.

McPherson's debut album Signs and Signifiers was released in 2012 and was met with plenty of critical acclaim, including Rolling Stone who called McPherson an artist to watch. With the release of his follow-up album Let the Good Times Roll, McPherson's following grew. This led to a fascinating animated performance on the Netflix kids show The Mr. Peabody and Sherman Show, where he was a musical guest. McPherson is set to tour this fall in support of the new album and will be at Detroit’s Magic Bag on November 14th.
