Gov't Mule will be bringing their unique southern take on the jam band sound to Frederik Meijer Gardens tonight. The band was formed in 1994 by Warren Haynes, Allen Woody, and Matt Abts. The trio met as members of the Allman Brothers Band and, in their free time, they would perform as Gov't Mule. In 1995, they released their self-titled debut album and in 1997 they decided to leave the Allman Brothers Band to play as the Mule full time. Over the course of their twenty-three year career, they have released ten full length albums and numerous live albums. The band has recordings of nearly all of their live shows available in MP3 format on their website.

Despite the work that goes into fronting a beloved rock band, Haynes has found time to engage in various side projects. Every year since 1989, Haynes has hosted the Annual Christmas Jam in Asheville North Carolina. This hometown show finds Haynes performing with a wide variety of artists in support of Habitat for Humanity. Last year's show feature sets from Bob Weir, Michael McDonald, Jamey Johnson, and Allison Krauss. Haynes also found time to maintain a solo career and perform with other artists as part of Phil Lesh and Friends and various permutations of the Grateful Dead. Revolution Come…Revolution Go, the band's tenth studio album, was release on June 9th.
