Detroit based rock group Jessica Hernandez + The Deltas just put out their latest album, or to put it more accurately, albums. The double album was released on June 23rd with both the English language Telephone and the Spanish language Telephono. Lead singer Jessica Hernandez is the first generation American daughter of a Mexican mother and Cuban father. After briefly studying at Columbia College Chicago, she returned to Detroit to pursue a career as a singer/songwriter. It was during this time that she would join up with the musicians who make up the Deltas.
In 2009 the band released their first EP Live at the Magic Bag. They would go on to start touring nationally with performances at SXSW and Bonnaroo followed by the release of their first studio LP, 2014's Secret Evil. In an interview with Consequence of Sound, Hernandez talks about how this double album allows her to "be American and proud" and also "proud of my heritage" and how she "want[s] aspects of that to be a huge part of my life creatively".
