Famed singer/songwriter Ray Wylie Hubbard is set to play a sold-out show at the Tip Top Deluxe Bar & Grill tonight. Coming out of the progressive country music movement of the 1970s, Hubbard first break came when he wrote the song "Up Against the Wall, Redneck Mother" which was recorded by Jerry Jeff Walker. Following the success of that recording, Hubbard set up a backing band called the Cowboy Twinkies, which many see as the first Cowpunk band.

Following the failure of the 1975 album Ray Wylie Hubbard and the Cowboy Twinkies, a product of label imposed over-production, Hubbard released Over the Wall in 1978, which featured his own recording of "Redneck Mother".

In 2015 Hubbard's autobiography A Life…Well Lived was published. Hubbard just released his latest single "Tell the Devil I'm Getting There as Fast as I Can" in which he collaborated with Lucinda Williams and Eric Church.
