Canadian musical collective Broken Social Scene's latest album Hug of Thunder hits stores this Friday. This will be the band's fifth album and first since releasing the highly acclaimed Forgiveness Rock Record back in 2010. Broken Social Scene was formed back in 1999 in Toronto, Canada by Kevin Drew and Brendan Canning. The members of Broken Social Scene have varied wildly over the years, fluctuating from six to as many as nineteen members.
Many members of Broken Social Scene would go on to have major musical careers of their own. Previous members have included Leslie Feist and members of the bands Metric and Stars. Along with the songs they recorded for their albums, Broken Social Scene has written the scores for films such as 2006's Half Nelson starring Ryan Gosling, 2010's It's Kind of a Funny Story and under the name Crash and the Boys provided original songs for Scott Pilgrim vs. the World.
The band is set to go on tour this fall with a show at The Fillmore in Detroit on September 30.
