Brooklyn based indie rock band Big Thief's second album, Capacity was released earlier this month to great acclaim. The group's follow-up to 2016's Masterpiece, has been called "a complete journey" by Pitchfork and "a folk-rock gem" by Rolling Stone.
What makes the band stand out are the lyrics of lead singer Adrienne Lenker. A graduate of the Berklee School of Music where she was one of two women studying guitar, Lenker formed the band with Buck Meek, her key collaborator. Capacity is full of honest and open songs based in part on Lenker's life. Lead single "Mythological Beauty" is based on a moment from Lenker's childhood where she almost died. Written from her mother's perspective, the song chronicles the time when Lenker was five and a rail spike fell on her head.
Big Thief performs at Bell's Eccentric Cafe in Kalamazoo tomorrow night!
