Australian psychedelic band King Gizzard and the Wizard Lizard's new studio album Murder of the Universe was released on last week, the second of reportedly five albums to be released this year. The first 2017 album Flying Microtonal Banana came out this past February. Formed in Melbourne in 2011, Murder of the Universe is the highly prolific band's 10th album in six years.
On the decision to produce five full albums, singer Stu Mackenzie told NME that the band had built a new recording studio and that in order to "give it a test run" they ramped up production “from three albums, to four, to five." This is not the first time that King Gizzard has experimented with their productions - previous albums have had all tracks the same length (Quarters from 2014) and creating an infinity loop with the opening and closing tracks of the LP (last year's Nonagon Infinity).
King Gizzard is currently set to tour the US in the fall, with a stop in Kalamazoo to headline the Audiotree Music Festival, September 22 and 23.
