Blue-eyed, southern soul group St. Paul & The Broken Bones performs in a sold out show tonight at Frederik Meijer Gardens Summer Concert Series. The 6-piece band brings the fire and brimstone energy from their home state of Alabama to their revival of the sound which once dominated the airwaves. The band is known for their raucous live shows featuring plenty of yelps, croons, and stage dives from frontman Paul Janeway.

Formed in 2012 as a proclaimed “last hurrah” that quickly became a far bit more than that. The group has released 2 albums and now frequently tour internationally. Their 2014 debut Half the City was produced by Ben Tanner of Alabama Shakes. On the recent 2016 follow-up Sea of Noise, Janeway longed to find a new approach to their sound and found inspiration and guidance in a memoir about the mass incarceration of black men in the South called Just Mercy.
