There’s not much about Chick Corea or his 51 year career that hasn’t been said before. The 22-Time Grammy-winning jazz legend, pianist and composer helped pioneer electric jazz fusion and has since constantly reinvented his musical process to perpetually innovate the genre. Corea is one of the most prominent jazz pianists to emerge after John Coltrane and a majority of his works are considered jazz standards.
Outside of his solo work, Corea is best known to many for his time spent in Miles Davis’ band and his band Return to Forever. Corea played with Davis from 1968 to 1970 and can be found on landmark records such as Filles de Kilimanjaro, In a Silent Way, and Bitches Brew. Return to Forever is considered one of the core groups at the heart of jazz-fusion and formed in Corea’s quest to create more accessible music in order to connect with others. The band went through several iterations, but succeeded in finding a wider audience.
