Local surf-garage-rock group Hollywood Makeout have sold out The Grand Lady Riverboat to celebrate the release of their second album Speedo Spider. Those lucky enough to have scored tickets will don nautical outfits and enjoy a 3 hour ride on the Grand River with live music from the band. The new record is the follow-up to their independent debut Bikini Bat. Fans hope to find a similar treasure trove of reverent, catchy indie rock tailor-made for drives with the windows down or leisurely floats down the river.
The band formed in 2012, receiving its name when founding members Erin Lenau and Cedric Canero realized how awful some actors are at kissing on screen. In 2014 they released the independent debut and have since performed across the state while writing new material, reminiscent of early surf rock or west coast groups like Best Coast or Wavves.
Grand Rapids label Dizzybird Records is issuing Speedo Spider on vinyl and cassette tape. The cassette will also include Hollywood Makeout’s re-issued debut album as the B-Side.
