Grammy-winning singer-songwriter Marc Cohn makes a rare appearance at St. Cecilia Music Center tonight for the Acoustic Cafe Folk series. In 2016, Cohn celebrated the 25th anniversary of his self-titled debut with Careful What you Dream: Lost Songs and Rarities, featuring material written and recorded around the time of the debut. Praised for his drawn-from-life imagery and strong storytelling chops, Cohn command’s each performance with a soulful ease.
Cohn career skyrocketed when his ballad “Walking in Memphis” helped earn a Grammy for Best New Artist in 1991. Cohn put out a slow stream of releases afterward and was given much to write about after suffering a nearly fatal shooting in 2007. The traumatic event inspired the his most recent collection of new original material, Join the Parade.
