Last week, Paul Simon announced that he’s retiring from performing. He also announced his farewell “Homeward Bound” tour that starts in North America in June - with swings through Chicago's United Center, June 6, and Michigan's DTE Energy Center, June 10. Simon is a musical phenomenon and his career, which has spanned seven decades, was a spectacle.
He found early and great success with Art Garfunkel as Simon & Garfunkel. The duo is best known for their harmonies and lyrical poetry in songs like ‘The Sounds of Silence’ and ‘The Boxer.’ Simon has also had a successful solo career with hits including ‘You Can Call Me Al’ and ‘Me and Julio Down by the School Yard.’ He’s won 16 Grammy awards for his work overall.
According to Rolling Stone, Simon said that ending his performing career “feels a little unsettling, a touch exhilarating and something of a relief.” He’s also expressed his unending love for music, his gratitude toward this band and his fans.
